Grimes Glen Park – Naples

The Adventures Begin!

Grimes Glen Historical MarkerAs you know, I’m on a mission to explore New York’s hidden treasures. Here’s my first one! Grimes Glen Park in Naples, NY has amazing waterfalls.

Honestly, I’ve never heard of Grimes Glen Park. I just happened upon it because I was researching potential waterfalls on my way to Hershey Park in Hershey, PA. My best friend, Stephanie, and I had plans to take our time traveling. Since we visited Niagara Falls, we were itching to find another waterfall to enjoy. This trip was the perfect opportunity.

When I asked google to find waterfalls along our route to PA, Grimes Glen Park popped up. I researched the park and discovered there are not just one, but 3 waterfalls around 60 feet tall! I was intrigued to say the least.

First small waterfall near the bridgeI added it to the list and we planned to go. We traveled to Naples as planned and found the park…. CLOSED!!!

The disappointment was there. But we didn’t give up. In fact, we donned our rebel boots and parked a short walk away then just walked around the closed gates. I remembered one of the websites I looked at said to get to the first waterfall you had to walk up the creek after the path ended. So after seeing the path closed signs, I decided to climb into the water and walk upstream.

I’m so glad I did.

However, if you choose to explore this waterfall, I highly recommend you purchase good water shoes. Stephanie and I were not prepared and ended up walking the 1/2 mile upstream barefoot. Granted, the first 1/4 mile the stream was smooth and flat walking. But after the path ended it becomes very rocky and slippery. I may have bruised my little feet, but it was worth it in the end.

Hiking upstream at Grimes Glen, this is the first peak of the waterfallWe hiked up the stream and came to the first waterfall. It was even more amazing than the photographs I saw online. It took my breath away. Absolutely amazing.

Unfortunately, we had wasted a lot of time debating on being rebels or not in the beginning, so by the time we got to the waterfall an hour had already gone by. We had planned on staying for only an hour. We made the decision to come back at a later date, with water shoes, to explore the next waterfall another 1/4 mile up river. Especially after we discovered Grimes Glen Park is only about an hour and a half drive from my place.

Without farther ado, here are my pictures from the adventure. Enjoy and let me know what you think!I look so tiny next to the 60' tall Grimes Glen waterfall
