Blossoms in the Woods Pattern

  • by

Let's start Friday off right with a new pattern!

But first, let me tell you why this pattern is a day late. It's quite a story.....

As you all know, I am working hard on fixing some technical difficulties pertaining to our first book. I had thought I fixed everything that needed to be fixed last week... Turns out I didn't. >.< Who knew trying to publish a book would be so hard?

Back to the drawing board I went. Thank goodness it is only one part of the book that has the problems. I figure out the problem and submit it again on Monday. Yay it's all ready for you to start pre-ordering! Or so I thought.

Tuesday rolls around and I am called into work. This is not a problem in itself, but when I get to work holy smokes there was a lot to do! I ended up having a rough day and meanwhile I had received another email telling me the problem I thought I fixed was not fixed. When I finally got home, I fixed myself up a huge cup of tea and got back to work. By huge, I mean I completely forgot to stop pouring more water into the cup and ended up overflowing my tea. Whoops.

With my trusty lap warmer kitty in my lap, my over flowing cup of tea, and encouraging words from my wonderful boyfriend, I set out to fix the problem yet again. Fast forward a few hours and BAM I think I've done it this time! Phew! It was now time to weave!

All day I had been thinking about what kind of pattern I wanted to make and provide you with. I wanted something kind of easy, but not beginner. And I wanted to give you something for a different loom since as of right now all we have is 5ft triangle loom patterns. Not everyone has a 5ft triangle, so I looked at my 'loom wall' and decided to play on the 10x60in Rectangle.

It was the very first loom I learned on and it's my personal favorite shape. I love how the back and forth weaving creates lovely diamonds as you go. It's just so much fun to weave on.

It was time to pick some yarn! This is probably one of my favorite times, choosing what yarn I want to play with. There are so many different wonderful textures and colors and when you put them together something magical happens. It has always awed me how a simple, plain ball of yarn can be turned into a piece of fabric. It's magic.

I picked out a few different colors that I wanted to play with. Only after I started weaving did I realize the colors blended so well you couldn't see where I'd made any changes. I kept going because it was still going to turn out nice, just not very clear. When it was finished, I had a lovely scarf, but I wasn't happy with it as a pattern.

Back to the yarn bin.

I ended up finding my Natural Heather by Patons. I love the color of this yarn, and so do customers. Believe it or not, this is my most popular yarn for my fingerless gloves. I decided to go with it as a contrast color. Then I saw my Lions Brand Natural Brown that I'd just purchased the other day. the Natural Heather always looks lovely against the rich Natural Brown. Perfect!

Since I love working with three colors, I decided to find a different texture yarn. That's how I ended up using the Lions Brand Oatmeal color. It's a thicker yarn and it is not 100% wool like the other two yarns which means it will add a different texture and feel to the piece. And the colors work well together.

It was too late to begin weaving, so I set it aside to start fresh in the morning on Thursday, the day it was supposed to be done and ready for you. But since I know I am a quick weaver, it usually takes me 1 1/2 to 2 hours to complete one project on the rectangle loom, I decided I'd have enough time to weave the project, write the pattern, write this blog post, and still have time left over, I wasn't worried.

The next morning with my new colors set, I began weaving. Bret, my awesome boyfriend who puts up with my looms taking over the living room, put on a new TV show for us to watch as I wove. Oh my goodness! I got sucked in. The show is new on Hulu called Britannia. One of my favorite areas and times in history is Britannia so I was most certainly hooked. I did manage to get more than half way through the scarf before we decided to go an adventure.

It was a lovely adventure and much needed.

When we returned I found an audio book and finished the Blossoms in the Woods pattern with lots of pictures and help. By help, I mean my 2 year old kitty decided my weaving makes a comfy bed, and he thinks he's a pretty kitty too. Silly boy, but got to love him.

I'm very happy with how it turned out and I hope you like it too!
