Our First Mother’s Day and Fathers Day

  • by

What a wild and crazy adventure we’ve had this year, becoming parents for the first time. I still cannot believe our little girl is 9 months old already! And to top it off, Bret’s first Father’s Day is right around the corner!

Now I know that media is changing the names… but we are going to celebrate Father’s Day. It’s something Bret has looked forward to and I am happy to celebrate him as a father.

For those of you living under a rock, Mother’s Day is now Birthing Person Day…. That’s right, my first Mother’s Day was taken away from me and turned into Birthing Person Day. Okay, I understand this is to include all those gender neutral people, but come on? What happens to all those mother’s out there who did not birth their children? Do we just leave them on the side line because they never experienced birth? Why can we not leave it Mother’s Day? I feel like the term Mother includes more people than Birthing Person.

What about Father’s Day? What will the media now call it? Birthing Person Partner Day? Or are we just going to no longer celebrate all the Father’s out there? Father’s deserve to be celebrated as much as Mother’s and people who did not birth their children should be included too. This turning everything gender neutral thing is getting a little out of hand…

Ok my rant is over. Sorry about that, I guess I am more passionate about it than I thought.

Anywho, back to Bret’s first Father’s Day! Yay Bret! I am so honored to have him as the father to our baby girl. He’s so sticking good with her. My heart melts every time she ‘searches’ for him and has the biggest smile. They play so cute together, and he definitely is the ‘what-ever makes you happy’ parent. He let’s her get away with a lot more than what I will.

I honestly didn’t know what to get this wonderful man for Father’s Day. I spent a lot of time thinking about it until I just let it go. That’s when it hit me! An air-fryer! Bret enjoys to cook and I thought, why not? And as an added bonus, he’s been talking about getting an air-fryer for a few weeks now. So baby girl and I found him a perfect air-fryer for our growing family to use for many years to come.

We got theGoWISE USA GW22956 7-Quart Electric Air Fryer It’s awesome.

I don’t have a lot to compare it to, this is our first air fryer, but I will say switching from oil to air is so cool. We’ve already made fried pickles, blooming onions, mozzarella sticks, home fries, and naan! Everything has been a success so far.

If you’ve never tried air fried food before, it literally tastes the same as traditional oil fried does, just without all that oil. It’s magic in my opinion. But so so so awesome. I;m looking forward to all the meals we can plan around this air fryer. And that best part is it’s 7-quarts! Which means we can fry a lot of food at once. Awesome party guest food here we come.

Now Bret wasn’t the only one to be celebrated. Bret was so proud of himself when he bought my Mother’s Day gift he just couldn’t wait for Mother’s Day for me to open it. It literally arrived on our doorstep and he was like, “you know you want to open it…” Truth be told, I was happy to wait, but he was so excited.

I opened it.

Bret and darling baby girl got me a new vacuum cleaner! And not just any vacuum, a Hoover. This is the fanciest vacuum I’ve ever had the privilege of seeing let alone own and use.

This is the one he got me:

Hoover Power Drive Bagless Multi Floor Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Swivel Steering, for Pet Hair

It’s awesome. We have cats and of course, I have long hair. Long hair was something Bret never experienced before, never having sisters. We will just say it has been an experience for him. Long story short, he was getting sick and tired of having to clean the vacuum brush of hair so he researched vacuums that claim hair will never get wrapped around the brush. That’s how he found the Hoover.

After using it for a few months now I can proudly say my hair has not wrapped around the brush. I can also say because of the soft brush we can literally use this vacuum everywhere in our mainly hardwood home. It picks up everything from hair to cat litter. I am very happy with it. It’s the best vacuum I’ve ever had the privilege of owning.

It a good thing too since every morning we wake up to what looks like a massacre in our living room… I love love love my fluffy long haired cats, but sometimes the shedding is out of hand. Good thing we now have an awesome vacuum we can use every day.

How was your first Mother’s Day? Or Father’s Day? What did your spouse get you? I’d love to hear your stories!
